Boredom…

January 12th, 2009

So, right now, I am in class… and my professor is talking about possible internships we can do for the Miami International Film Festival. Like any us are going to have time to do them!

It’s been a pretty slow day, but I made some decisions over the weekend. I realized that I would much rather use all my own stock for the works in my BFA show. I don’t want to have to owe anything to anyone. Hence, this afternoon I will be going out and buying the Canon Rebel XTi. I’ve read a great many reviews on the net from both companies and owners, and for the price, it seems to be the best D-SLR out there. I’m not too worried about the “cheap” lens that comes with it, since I can use my manual 70mm lens with it. (All Canon lens work on Canon cameras). Regardless, I’ll be taking the lens to the store so I can test it out first.

Ok, so… seems class is starting up now. Be back later with more info. Ciao.

Fantasy in Reality…

January 11th, 2009

That’s the title of a new series of works, spanning different media and techniques, that I am currently working on. My first dive into this theme is a series of photos I took with my Canon AE-1 Program film camera in two different Miami locations. These two locations have very storybook looking elements; giant pillars, fountains, stairs, ledges, towers, and sculptures that look like they came from castles. We’ll see how the photos came out tomorrow.

School so far has been pretty good. I’m already quite busy buying all the necessary supplies, starting my homework assignments, and getting ready for my BFA show. I’ll be working like a dog for the next few months. If I don’t write as often as I have been, that’s most likely the reason. The good thing about my schedule this year is that I only have one class a day. That’s perfect because it gives me plenty of free time to do my work. A few people are freaking out about the BFA show, but I’ve decided that it’s pointless to worry so much. I just need to buckle down and do it. That’s it.

I hung out with my friends yesterday for Saturday Night Magic. It was a LOT of fun. There was plenty of trash-talking and ego-destruction for everyone. Haha. We played about 5 games, and a few of us stayed up really late just talking and hanging out. From what I deduced, there’s going to be another get-together next week. :D Sadly, I only won one game, and it was by default since everyone decided to stop playing and I had the highest score.

Anyway, I’m off to eat some Cookies N Cream poptarts. Mmm! Ciao, mei amici!

P.S. I still haven’t bought the Canon, but I plan to.

Before I go to bed…

January 10th, 2009

I just wanted to say that I’ve finished the art piece that has been challenging torturing me for nearly two weeks. I wanted to finish it by tonight, since this weekend is going to be almost entirely dedicated to school projects and assignments.

You can view the work here and you can see the close-ups here. I’ll be adding the work to my website tomorrow. I’m just too tired right now.

In other news, I am most likely going to buy that Canon Rebel Xti that I had mentioned a few entries back. I’m going to do some research on it first, though, just to make sure it’s a good camera and such. But I trust Canon. Heh.

Anyway, off to bed. Goodnight.

No more artist’s block?

January 5th, 2009

I’ve been working on a new piece for about 5 days now. It’s been driving me nuts, really. I’m hellbent on doing as much work on my own as I can, i.e. using very little photos and painting the piece instead. The only reference I’ve used so far is a stock image from a DA member, mjranum-stock. Other than that, everything was done from scratch. Here is a little preview:

Mind you, these are not even close to actual size. The whole thing measures 75″x50″ @ 72 dpi, so it’s pretty damn big. The desert is proving to be a bit of a challenge, but it’s certainly easier than I imagined it would be. With enough patience and time, I think it is going to look killer.

In other news, I joined Twitter. Not for any special reason, but I figured… why the hell not? Sort of that, “Everyone else is doing it” thing? Heh. I don’t know how much use it will be for me, though.

My classes start tomorrow. I’m quite bummed since my vacation will officially end, but I’m happy that I’ll get to see all my classmates and friends again. The good thing about this semester is that I only have one class to attend each day. That means, I go to school, have my class, and then I’m free to do whatever the hell I want! This is especially beneficial for me considering I take the bus. I’ve always hated taking the bus from downtown Miami at 9pm, since that area is a BARREN WASTELAND at that hour. Your lucky if you even see a hobo on the corner on some days. It’s a bit intimidating. Why do I take the bus, you ask? If you’ve ever been in downtown Miami, you know that finding parking is ri-DUNK-ulously hard. Even though the school I attend has its own parking areas, it’s just easier to take the bus. I get on, ride for an hour, get off, and voila! No car keys, no worries about the car being stolen, etc…

Well, anyway, back to work play. Ciao, mei amici.
