Keep from quackin’ up…

November 20th, 2009

Yea, yea, the title is a little corny, but there is a reason for it.

I’ve been somewhat lonely lately. It wasn’t so bad when I first moved here, but after living away from my family and friends for a while, it has started to affect me. I’ve come to realize that they’re not as easily accessible as they once were. It got really bad about two days ago: I didn’t eat the entire day, and felt really fucking miserable. Thankfully, Audi was there to comfort me and make me feel a little less lonely.

As a form of self-therapy, so to speak, I’ve now made it a routine of going out to the lake near my apartment to take photos of the wildlife (and occasional pets) that hang out there. While I can’t talk to the animals, or go shopping with them, or drink a beer with them at a bar, they do provide some much needed company. I’ve come to recognize a few of them, and have already handed out a few nicknames. One of the really big male ducks I call Big Paulie, since he walks like he’s part of the duck mafia or something. Another duck is called Bella, and no, I didn’t name her that because of Twilight. I named her that because of how pretty she is. Then there’s Mack the Duck, who loves to keep himself clean, even though he’s got one of the ugliest faces around. LOL. It might seem silly, but it has kept me from having a total mental meltdown. So, it can’t be all that bad, right?

If you’re at all interested in some of the photos I’ve taken, you can see them at my JPG Magazine account.

I now haz teh interwebz…

August 15th, 2009

Yes yes, the 802.11n wireless card I ordered came in today and it works perfectly. I am currently typing this entry on my computer. HUZZAH! I can now become one with the WWW again. Tomorrow… scratch that, later on today, around 12:00pm (if all goes well and I actually wake up on time) I will be driving down to Miami to spend a week with my parents. WHY, you ask? Well, Dustin recently called me and asked me if I would be able to come down to Miami and help him out once again at World Atlantic Airlines. I said, “Hell yes” since no one in their right mind would turn down $20 an hour when money is a little tight. Soooo, I packed up all my “business” attire, some casual clothes, and all the necessary amenities. This money will definitely help me and Audi out. I also asked Dustin if it would be possible for me to continue working for World Atlantic Airlines from home. He said that they are currently working on getting the server all set up. Once it is, he said he’ll work on that the following week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed here, people. If this goes through, I may not have to find a new job in Jupiter after all.

It’s going to be very weird going back to my parents’ house. As much as I know I needed to go back anyway to get the rest of my stuff, I had never intended to spend a week there. But, I suppose it works out, since it will give me time to earn money and time to organize my belongings with some patience.

I recently uploaded a bunch of photos of me and Audi on my Facebook, if anyone is interested: Miranda Adria & Akira Zero

Oh, and my birthday is on August 22nd. I’m turning 26. Hooray for me.

Ban photo-retouching? Give me a break!

January 7th, 2009

Every once in a while, some incredibly stupid story comes along that moves me enough to write a rant. Yes, this is one of those times. This video was linked in a deviantART journal:

Photoshop Effect - diet.com

Photoshop Effect - diet.com

This video is done by “Sarah” (whoever the hell that is) to showcase just how much we are being deceived by the big and bad photo retouchers. Scary, huh? Imagine that. The celebrities in magazines DON’T actually look like that!

As an artist who has retouched her own photos (and the photos of her friends) on many an occasion, I can tell you that Photoshop is like a gift from the gods. Not only is it one of the key instruments of my future career, it has helped me to create some beautiful photographs that I am extremely proud of. Why do I retouch photos? Simply because there are times where the photo I’ve taken demands perfection. If I am meant to have a certain feature (like a smile wrinkle) or a goof (like stray hairs), then they stay. Otherwise, those little elements can make an image look bad.

My biggest beef with this video is Sarah. I could understand if she was 200 pounds, had zits all over her face, and cellulite trying to escape her jeans… BUT SHE’S PRETTY. She looks like she can’t be more than 130 pounds, and she already looks like a celebrity to begin with. Is it really that much of a stretch for her photos to go through Photoshop? The before and after images they present near the end of the video are a JOKE. Oh, so he removed a few eye wrinkles. Big deal! You would have still been fuckable with or without them. All the retoucher did was make you look BETTER. Yea, that’s a crime.

In my honest opinion, anyone who complains about there being too much photo retouching is a complete and utter moron. Banning photo retouching is just one more way that stupid people, who apparently have nothing better to do, ruin the lives of others.
