Fantasy in Reality…

January 11th, 2009

That’s the title of a new series of works, spanning different media and techniques, that I am currently working on. My first dive into this theme is a series of photos I took with my Canon AE-1 Program film camera in two different Miami locations. These two locations have very storybook looking elements; giant pillars, fountains, stairs, ledges, towers, and sculptures that look like they came from castles. We’ll see how the photos came out tomorrow.

School so far has been pretty good. I’m already quite busy buying all the necessary supplies, starting my homework assignments, and getting ready for my BFA show. I’ll be working like a dog for the next few months. If I don’t write as often as I have been, that’s most likely the reason. The good thing about my schedule this year is that I only have one class a day. That’s perfect because it gives me plenty of free time to do my work. A few people are freaking out about the BFA show, but I’ve decided that it’s pointless to worry so much. I just need to buckle down and do it. That’s it.

I hung out with my friends yesterday for Saturday Night Magic. It was a LOT of fun. There was plenty of trash-talking and ego-destruction for everyone. Haha. We played about 5 games, and a few of us stayed up really late just talking and hanging out. From what I deduced, there’s going to be another get-together next week. :D Sadly, I only won one game, and it was by default since everyone decided to stop playing and I had the highest score.

Anyway, I’m off to eat some Cookies N Cream poptarts. Mmm! Ciao, mei amici!

P.S. I still haven’t bought the Canon, but I plan to.

To Art or not to Art…

December 22nd, 2008

I’ve had a photo idea in my head for the past 4 days, and I just haven’t gotten up the motivation to do it. I suppose it’s just my immense laziness, a symptom I acquired after 3 months of busting my ass for my senior year. Bleh. If I have time today, I will do it. Not because I have to, but because I’m going to make myself do it. If I don’t, then I’m just going to keep putting it off and I’ll never get done.

Speaking of art, I recently found the business card of a woman that bought one of my pieces at the Miami Beach Festival of the Arts earlier this year. I called her up and was pleased to find out she still had my work! She has it hanging over her bed, and she told me she’s gotten nothing but compliments about it. :D Not that I thought she was going to buy it and then throw it away, but you know, as an up-and-coming artist… I have no guarantee that the people who buy my work will actually keep it. She asked about my latest artistic accomplishments and I told her that I was in Art Basel, and she was heartbroken that I hadn’t called her up to let her know. I asked her if it would be possible for her to take some shots of my work in her room so that I could have it in my records. She said she would be more than happy to, so I should be getting those images within the next week or so.

I did some alterations to my website. Originally, the drop down menus opened when you hovered over the main buttons. Last night I found this amazing site with a  better drop down menu script, and the author explained everything perfectly. I was able to make the drop down menu work when you clicked on the main button instead of just hovering over it. Now, the menu stays open until you click another button. Woot!

Anyway, I’m off to take those photos now. I’ll most likely post a blog later with them so you all can check them out.

I leave you with this:
