And things were going so well…

March 7th, 2010

It seems that fate has a wonderful sense of humor. Apparently, things were going too well for fate’s taste, so it felt the need to sprinkle a little shit on my epic ice cream sundae.

My hard drive failed. At first, I thought it was just my computer being overloaded with activity, and getting a bit frozen (ah, gotta love PCs!). But no, turns out the hard drive finally decided to retire. So, I’m just gonna try to salvage the few files I’d created in the short time since the re-format, and then just buy a new hard drive. I’d rather buy a new hard drive rather than a new tower, since I’d rather have Windows XP and not Windows 7. However, hopefully with this new job, I’ll be able to buy myself a Mac instead. We’ll see.

I’m definitely not as stressed out as I was during my last computer troubles. This is more of an annoyance than anything else (currently typing this on my iPhone’s WordPress app, btw).

Anyway, here’s to hoping I get a comp again some time soon. Ciao!

The calm after the storm…

January 30th, 2010

Oh boy, life has been hella interesting lately. My computer caught a nasty virus. Long story short, I ended up having to just salvage all my important files and wiping the hard drive to install Windows XP again. Much thanks to my amazing and wonderful Audi for helping me out. I LOVE YOU, BEBE!

Now, while the situation might sound really bad, I think it might have been a blessing in disguise. I basically got a brand new computer out of the deal. Sure, I have to now re-download and re-install a lot of programs that I lost, but none of my photos or files were lost. :) I am now going to be EXTRA careful on the interwebz.

The only downside is that I didn’t have a computer for about a week, so I lost a lot of precious time that could have been spent working on my commissions. I’m right back in the groove now, though, and I’ve been working on the group shot. It’s almost done, actually. Right now I am in the process of finishing up the details. The hair has been the most aggravating part, but I have a feeling they are all really going to love it. :D Sorry, ladies!!

I’ve applied to work at Publix and at Gamestop. Both are pretty much in walking distance, so if I get a job at either, I’ll at least be earning a steady income. I’m going over to my cousin’s house tomorrow, and she said she’d print out the Job Application Form for Gamestop. I’m mostly visiting though for my grandmother. She’s been missing me a lot and has been asking when I’ll be able to pass by again. Awww. Hehe. So, I’m sure she’ll be very happy to see me tomorrow.

Ohh! And I played the demo for Bayonetta. HOLY MOLY!! That game is the very definition of the word EPIC. Now, I REALLY want to get a job just so I can have enough money to buy the game. Haha. So nice to see I have my priorities straight, huh? Forget the light bill and the rent and food… THE GAME. Haha. I’m nuts, huh?

Anyway, I am off to work on those commissions some mo’. Ciao!

A night of panic, stress, and relief…

July 2nd, 2009

So I’m on my computer, minding my own business… when I start to notice it is acting funny. So I decided to restart. When it comes back it says it needs to do a system check. I was already getting nervous. So I let it do its thing… and then? Some message comes up saying that it can’t load my personal settings and it’s going to log me in under a temporary profile. What the fuck. I go to My Documents, all my shit is gone. I start to freak out a bit, because I’m thinking, how could I have lost everything? So I check the space available on the main drive, and it’s still the same it was before the restart. Then I realized, the information is there, I just can’t get to it.

I call my big brother over, just because he’s a bit more knowledgeable about tech stuff than I am, and he starts helping me to figure out a solution. He tells me we should just do a system recovery. So we start praying that the system made a back-up recently, so that I wouldn’t lose too much recent activity. PRAISE BABY JEEBUS, there was an update marked for YESTERDAY at 8:00 pm. I was so relieved! I went through the system recovery process with my fingers crossed, sweating bullets, and tada! Everything went back to normal.

As soon as things went back to normal, I went and removed the bulk of my artwork from my main drive, since I have all of it (including newer works I had started yesterday) on my 500gb external drive. After it was all gone, (save for two files that refuse to be deleted), I ended up gaining about 90gb of space. YIKES.

Yes. My night has been quite interesting.

Random tidbits.

I miss Audi! I wish he was here to hold me and keep me warm. =( It may be a long while before I can see him again. I’m going to be really busy with school, and he’s going to be stuck in Tequesta for some time. Hopefully, though, next month I’ll be able to

I was running out of space on my computer’s main drive,  so I decided to move all my important documents (artwork, music, photos, etc…) to my 500gb external drive. That way, should anything happen to my computer, my most important stuff is safely locked away. The best thing about the case I bought for the external drive is that it has a built-in fan. I can leave it on for hours (within reason) and it won’t overheat.

My friend Sam from school is hopefully going to hook me up tomorrow with a copy of Adobe After Effects for the PC, so that I can work on my BFA videos at home. I’m also planning on buying some green sheet tomorrow to make my own green screen at home. If I manage to accomplish these two things tomorrow, I’ll be totally on track for the review on the 30th. I had spoken to my Senior Project professor, and he said that if I had one video and stills of the other two, I’d be set.

I’ve been thinking of doing a new website design, one that doesn’t incorporate an iframe. Not that I care either way, but the more I think about it, the less professional an iframe seems. We’ll see. It will likely have to wait until February, since making a new layout will be rather time-consuming.

American Idol recently started their new season. I absolutely LOVE this show, especially the auditions. It’s one of the most entertaining series of train wrecks ever. The amount of people who come to audition and obviously can’t sing to save their lives boggles me. The only possible reasons I can imagine: 1) they just want their 15 minutes of fame, or 2) they ACTUALLY think they can sing. The best ones are the talentless hacks who get mad after they get four NO’s.

I can’t think of anything else to talk about so… later.
