Jae – Lovely.: Abortion.

jaeelovely:

“By age 45, more than 40% of all American women will have had at least one abortion, a rate almost twice that of Western Europe” via Ask Dr. Ruth’s Twitter.

I don’t know why this concerns me so much. Perhaps because abortion has been labeled the number one killer of African Americans (which just opens a whole new can of worms in regards to when life actually begins).

I don’t know where you got that statistic from, because the #1 killer of Americans in general is heart disease, not abortion. Also, life is a continuous process. It ebbs and flows like the tide. Regardless of that, potential life should never take precedence over actual, already born life.

So why are we as a race of women being negatively pinned for something universally taking place? Especially here in the US.

I don’t even understand what this is referring to, to be quite honest. Your quote from Dr. Ruth mentioned “Americans”, not “African Americans”.

What are we as a nation doing so wrong that so many women are turning to abortion? The inherent delay of adulthood? The emphasis on the ‘career woman’? High divorce rates? Decreased percentages of married women in specific communities?

Or maybe, just maybe, a lot of it has to do with Right-Wing Conservative idiots trying to pass legislation to keep pregnant people barefoot and in the kitchen while popping out a baby every 9 months.

Clearly we’ve got some work to do ladies. And not saying that we are completely to blame (because we all know it takes two to tango) but since we’re always so bent on making abortion a ‘women’s issue,’ doesn’t that mean it’s our responsibly to improve this statistic?

It’s not a “women’s issue”. More than just women need access to proper sex education, contraceptives, and yes, even abortion.
